Wye Road Bridge Lighting is a Bath Seasonal Tradition
Christmas is for children of all ages, which is why the Wye Road Bridge Lighting and Santa Arrival, courtesy of the Bath Business Association (BBA), has become one of Bath’s favorite seasonal traditions. This year will be the 14th annual chance for families, friends, neighbors and children of all ages to gather at the Wye Road Bridge the Friday after Thanksgiving – this year on Nov. 24 at 5:30 – for this family friendly, free-of-charge evening.
“It’s one of the fun community things the BBA does each year, and it’s become a traditional way to introduce the holiday season for many families here in Bath,” said Nancy Fay, BBA officer.
The Wye Road Bridge will be decked out in holiday finery, courtesy of Bath Township, just waiting for the finishing touches of lighting all of the holiday lights along the bridge and on the decorated Christmas tree next to it. Caroling, courtesy of the BBA impromptu “choir,” will precede the lights being turned on for the holiday season just as Santa Claus arrives that evening, courtesy of the Bath Fire Department. Santa will then take up temporary residence at the CleverPup101 Schoolhouse, where community children can visit with him to make their upcoming holiday wishes known!
Rudolph, the Red-Nose Reindeer, and costumed Hale Farm & Village interpreters will mingle among the crowd. Mule-drawn carriage rides, complete with the ambiance of sleigh bells ringing, will complete the holiday picture. Gift bags for the younger attendees, courtesy of BBA members, along with cookies and hot chocolate, compliments of The Bake Shop in Ghent, will be available to herald this year’s holiday season!
The Wye Road Bridge Lighting takes place the evening before Small Business Saturday, the nationally recognized day to encourage shoppers to shop local. There are many unique and distinctive businesses in Bath, many of which are members in the BBA. The variety of goods and services available locally can enhance your holiday gift shopping while supporting the businesses of your friends and neighbors.
